Invisible Inventories: Besucher*innen zur Ausstellung in Nairobi

In den quickly 70 Jahren unter britischer Kolonialherrschaft (1895 bis 1963) verloren als Folge der kolonialen Unterdrückung und den dagegen geleisteten Widerstand nicht nur unzählige Kenianer * innen ihr Leben, es wurden auch tausende von historischen kenianischen Kultur- und Kunstgegenständen außer Landes gebracht, um an Museen und Privatsammler * innen in ganz Europa und den USA verkauft zu werden. Und was bedeutet ihre Anwesenheit für die europäischen und nordamerikanischen Museen, in denen sie sich heute befinden?

Antworten auf diese Fragen sucht die internationale Ausstellung „ Invisible Inventories: Zur Kritik kenianischer Sammlungen in westlichen Museen”. Unter der kollektiven künstlerischen Leitung des Teams des „ International Inventories Programme” wird pass away Ausstellung 2021 an drei Standorten in variierenden Ausführungen gezeigt. Das „ International Inventories Programme” ist ein Projekt der Künstler * innenkollektive The Nest (Kenia) und SHIFT (Deutschland/Frankreich), der National Museums of Kenya, des Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museums in Köln, des Weltkulturen Museums in Frankfurt am Main und des Goethe-Instituts. Das Ausstellungsprojekt „ Invisible Inventories” wird von der Kulturstiftung des Bundes gefördert.

Just how can Kenyan social items that remain in the ownership of cultural establishments in Europe and also the United States be made accessible in Kenya? This inquiry is being explored by the exhibition collection Invisible Inventories, which opens up on the 17th of March at the National Museums of Kenya in Nairobi– in the absence of claimed historic things.
